EC insists online broadcasting is tied to internet rights

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The European Commission is to insist that live online broadcasting rights over the internet and mobile phones must be tied to internet rights, and not with the broadcasting rights. With BskyB about to enter the second season of the three-season deal, the Commission is in negotiations with the English Premier League about how the next set of television rights will be sold. The PL is expected to tender the next set of rights next year and the Commission has also made clear that it expects live rights to matches to be shared between more than one broadcaster. UEFA has already adopted the Commission’s policy regarding online broadcasting rights, in the new coverage of Champions League games from next year.
