Clubs spend big on transfers to stay in top-flight

The Elitserien new TV broadcasting deal which guarantees for every top-flight club an income of €900,000 to €1.2m, has reflected the transfer activity in the country. The clubs bought 42 new players in July, in a bid to strengthen their squads in order to stay in the top flight and maintain serious earning potential. Norwegian football finance expert Nils Henrik Solum has commented to media that “the clubs are gambling.” “It’s a good investment for those who will stay in the Elitserien, but for those who don’t it’s a huge risk,” Solum added.
