The company has renewed its television rights deal to broadcast UEFA Champions League games in Norway, Denmark and Sweden until the end of the 2008/09 season. Under the terms of the deal with UEFA, a combination of broadcasters will broadcast live coverage of matches. According to UEFA, the deal gives both free-to-air and pay-TV viewers a good opportunity to watch the Champions League across Scandinavia. The deals in Norway and Denmark mirror the existing ones that end after this season, with the free-to-air commercial broadcaster TV3 and pay television broadcaster Viasat having acquired rights in each country. In Sweden, TV3 is replaced by ZTV, while Viasat retains the pay-TV rights. MTG has held rights to broadcast the Champions League since its inception in the 1992-93 season. The deal was negotiated on UEFA’s behalf by its television rights agency Team Marketing. Under the present contract, which expires after this season’s Champions League final on 25 May, the top four matches of the competition each week were broadcast by TV3 in each country, while all other matches were shown by Viasat.
