Futbol de Primera the leading syndicator of Hispanic soccer in the United States has formed a partnership with XM Satellite Radio to launch the new sports channel. XM is also the exclusive satellite broadcaster for the 2006 World Cup, covering all sixty-four matches in both English and Spanish on two separate channels. According to head of XM EVP Programming, Eric Logan, the new channel "will be an excellent complement to our extensive play-by-play coverage of Major League Baseball, NASCAR and college sports, as well as our new 24-hour Spanish-language Sports channel." With a potential audience of over 35 million Hispanics in the US, the channel will not only broadcast World Cup soccer but also other Latin American sporting events such as baseball and boxing. General Motors will be the channel's presenting sponsor. Fox Sports Espanol, the most popular Spanish language sports channel in the US, last week reported impressive ratings for their coverage of the Copa Libertadores, the South American version of UEFA's Champions League.
