The German sports goods manufacturer signed a deal that will see the company continue its role as Official Sports Equipment Supplier for further eight years, starting from 2007. The deal concludes cooperation of 35 years between FIFA and the company, and making the partnership one of the longest in modern sports marketing history. The deal signed comprises cash payment of US$215m and further services worth US$136m, including license fees for the company’s branded products. The company will also supply all the sports equipment for every FIFA event, including the Official Match Balls and the Official Kits for referees and delegations. The deal provides the company with extensive licensing and event rights around the FIFA World Cup, including joint marketing programmes, Internet co-operations, priority access to TV advertising and premium stadium signage for all games of the tournament.
