Revenue loss at Newcastle United
|
English club Newcastle United has had a 13 per cent fall in intake from matchday, commercial and broadcast revenue. This was the situation even prior to the relegation and so the fact that Newcastle featured in Deloitte's top 20 richest clubs list in the Football Money League is interesting. The report said, "Newcastle is the only club to feature in this year's Money League who did not compete in European competition in 2008/09. Impressively, they still generated the tenth highest matchday revenues out of Money League clubs at GBP 29 million (EURO 34.1 million). Despite boardroom uncertainty, managerial changes and poor performances on the pitch the club still attracted average attendances of almost 49,000, albeit this was the first time in nine seasons that average attendances dipped below 50,000 as matchday revenues decreased by GBP 3.4m (10%). Commercial revenue fell by GBP 6.5m (25%) to GBP 19.4m (EURO 22.8m)." |
