Pre-season tour earns millions for Barcelona

A pre-season American tour has proved to become a hefty source of revenue for Spanish Barcelona.

In just 12 days, Barcelona brought in between EUR 5 million and EUR 6 million, as revealed on the club’s website.

The championship winners beat out the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders, finishing in a tie with Mexican team Guadalajara, with approximately 221,000 fans making their way to the three matches.

According to Barcelona Director Joan Boix, the club has permeated an ‘important’ market by finalising a three-year deal with U.S.-based sponsors. Boix further noted that the club is committed to returning to North America due to Barcelona’s increasing popularity in America.

Boix identified both the tour and the Barca brand as contributing to the figure sources, which far exceeded that of the club’s expectations.

With the summer tour behind them, Barcelona is now getting ready for the first instalment of the Spanish Super Cup this weekend.
