Livingston on verge of sinking as landlords await hefty rent payment

The future remains cloudy for Scottish Livingston, following Angelo Massone’s announcement that the club is not expected to meet the Tuesday deadline set by West Lothian Council.

Massone showed little confidence that Livingston could make the GBP 280,000 in overdue rent, bringing the club that much closer to administration.

In an attempt to make the situation more manageable for the club, West Lothian Council offered Massone a payment plan. However, the Livingston chairman has merely indicated that ‘discussions are ongoing’, as told to BBC Scotland.

Massone managed to issue a GBP 10,000 payment earlier this week, following threats from the local authority that action would be taken otherwise.

Despite the fact that the Livingston head remained confident about the club’s ability to rectify the payment, he has since changed his tune.

According to a Council spokesman, the two sides took part in ‘confidential discussions’ this week, after mutually agreeing to a June 30 deadline. In addition to providing the necessary funds, the Council had requested that the club show proof that they were capable of meeting the financial obligations remaining between the parties.

Although Livingston managed to secure GBP 125,000 through the sale of Leigh Griffiths, it was not enough to pull the club out of trouble.

While the Council maintains that a ‘secure future for senior football at Livingston’ remains the top priority, the club has other accounts to settle as well.
