Media Partners wins int’l TV rights to Italian Serie A’s big three
Italy - 24 February, 2006
Italian media company Media Partners outbid Germany’s sport marketing agency SPORTFIVE for international TV rights to three of Italy’s Serie A biggest clubs, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus, a three-year deal set to begin next year.
The new deal is a joint venture between Media Partners and sports agent Ricardo Silva. Media Partners currently holds the international TV rights to Italian clubs Lazio, Cagliari, Lecce, and Treviso, and the international rights to programming on the AC Milan television network.
Those rights have been licensed to Fox Sports International in the US and Canada, and to ESPN International in Latin America and Oceania. The move is a double blow to SPORTFIVE, which currently holds the international TV rights to 16 Serie Clubs, including the big three. The company also lost out on international TV rights for Germany’s Bundesliga starting next season, losing out to a joint bid by Betandwin.com and sports agent Thomas Krohne.
