A German court issued an interim injunction against pay-TV broadcaster Premiere AG, prohibiting the company from advertising for live screenings of Bundesliga football games of the coming 2006-2007 season.
According to the injunction issued by the Hamburg District Court, Premiere may not advertise for live broadcasts of Bundesliga games unless it makes clear that they can only be viewed via a broadband internet connection from Deutsche Telekom AG.
The ruling follows an application for an injunction by Unity Media unit Arena, the sports rights firm that last December secured the TV rights for the Bundesliga's coming three seasons.
Premiere, which failed to secure any exclusive Bundesliga rights, last month teamed up with Deutsche Telekom to show football matches live on the internet.
Deutsche Telekom holds the internet rights for the coming three Bundesliga season.
