The broadcasting rights for the 2010 tournament will be split into three main packages for each continent. The new format includes one package consisting solely of free-to-air rights, containing a minimum of 22 free games plus a highlights program package, while the other two packages will be available to either free-to-air or pay-TV broadcasters. "We are moving from a global TV
offer to a continental offer," Jerome Valcke, director of TV and marketing at FIFA, announced at the Soccerex event in Dubai. FIFA is to publish its European TV rights tender document on 20 December, with the closing date for bids set at 11 February 2005. To reduce clutter and to optimize the value for sponsors FIFA is planning to cut the competition’s 15 official partners and six national suppliers model to six global-based Official Partners and eight sponsors.
