Canal Plus win Ligue 1 rights

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Vivendi Universal's Canal Group has paid out a record Euro 1.8bn for all four packages offered in the French bid. The pay-TV giant gets exclusive broadcast rights to the League 1 matches for the next three seasons, in a deal which represents the most paid by any broadcaster in the world for domestic football games. The total is around 60% higher than the €375m total paid between both Canal Plus and TPS for this season, and is more-than-double the amount paid for last season’s rights, which was worth €266m. Around 20% of the total will be distributed to Ligue 2 clubs. Although media reported that the European Commission will investigate the deal, EU spokesman released the rumors and mainly as nobody had lodged a complaint.
