UK’s Channel 4 has secured a deal with TWI to broadcast the French league matches. It will be the first time that France’s Ligue 1 is shown on terrestrial television in the UK. TWI recently won a four-year deal for the international broadcasting rights of Ligue 1, and already produces the sports magazine show Trans World Sport, which is shown to a 260m audience across 131 countries. According to SPORT MARKT European Football Monitor at the end of last season, only 7% of UK fans were interested in Ligue 1, although it scored slightly ahead of the German 1.Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivisie, the latter being shown late at night by UK terrestrial channel, Five. Channel 4 has added the French top-flight to Italian Serie A coverage and the recent South American Copa Libertadores matches.
