Premier League world-wide TV deals to cross GBP 1 billion

The Sun reports that the English Premier League is all set to announce that deals for its worldwide television rights will cross the GBP 1 billion mark. The current agreements are worth GBP 645 million but chief executive Richard Scudamore is confident that when the deals for the next three-year agreement are finalized the amount will be over one billion.

Currently domestic rights for the telecast of Premier League matches is held by Sky, ESPN and BBC and is valued at GBP 1.8 billion. Negotiations are still on-going for the Chinese and Russian markets but the current estimate is that each of the top 20 Premier League clubs will get GBP 50 million from the television revenues.

Chief exec Richard Scudamore is ready to announce the bumper windfall shortly as he publishes the figures for the worldwide rights to screen top Premier League matches.
