ESPN is just one of three broadcasters to secure Bundesliga television rights in Brazil, following a deal inked between the parties and DFL Sports Enterprises.

As a result, ESPN, Band Sports and Esporte Interativo will exploit the rights for three seasons, from 2009 through to 2012.

ESPN has acquired the right to air three live matches, along with weekend highlights, as noted on bundesliga.com. Band Sports and Esporte Interativo will complement ESPN’s package by providing additional coverage throughout the country.

In addition, Bundesliga matches will continue to be aired by TVC Deportes Sports Channel, the broadcaster responsible for Mexican CFL and Grey Cup coverage.

While the value of the deals has not been disclosed, DFL Sports Enterprises CEO Dr. Robert Niemann noted that the latest broadcasters will give Bundesliga an ‘enormous boost’.

Niemann went on to identify Mexico and Brazil as ‘the most important markets in Latin America’, due in part to the strong involvement of Latin-American players in the league.

DFL Sports Enterprises COO Jörg Daubitzer further commented on the exposure in Germany, indicating that the ‘excellent’ television ratings in the country speak for themselves.
