Mediapro await approval to launch new La Liga PPV channel

Spanish La Liga matches will be aired by TV broadcaster Mediapro on a new pay-per-view (PPV) channel. The matches will be offered for EUR 1 per game using a digital terrestrial television (DTT) format, as reported by sportbusiness.com.

The plans are expected to go off without a hitch, despite the fact that there are currently no laws in place to give broadcasters the right to charge for terrestrial television coverage. However, the Spanish government has indicated that the law is in progress and should soon be in effect.

If all goes well, the new Gol TV will move into the place of la Sexta’s Hogar 10, yet another entity of Mediapro.

CEO Jaume Roures has indicated that Mediapro is ready to begin production at the end of August, which marks the start of the upcoming season. Roures went on to point out that not all viewers will be required to purchase a pay-DTT decoder, thanks to the PCMCIA slot featured on many sets that can house a DTT card.

Every match airing on Gol TV will incorporate high-definition and Dolby Surround sound, to give fans the ultimate home viewing experience. In addition to Primera Liga matches, Gol TV will also provide Champions League and Premier League games, along with coverage from various other leagues.
