Walt Disney's ESPN TV network is to join the race for the English Premier League television rights, an ESPN spokesman stated, but declined to reveal any plans for specific moves.

According to Bloomberg, ESPN has an eye on two of the packages being offered between 2010 and 2013. Invitations to bid on the rights were sent out by the Premier League in December, and bids will be accepted starting from February.

Television rights for the live Premier League matches are currently held by BSkyB and Setanta, while the BBC airs the league's highlights programme.
