The new Premiership deal gives the company rights to show more live matches than ever before - 138 in all. The other 242 Premiership games played every season will now also be shown, delayed, in a unique Football First package which will make its debut on the opening day of the Barclays Premiership season, Saturday 14 August. Digital viewers will be offered up to eight Premiership games and highlights of all games will run for about 50 minutes each. “The days of some clubs' games being restricted to a couple of minutes of highlights here and there are gone” said Vic Wakeling, Managing Director of Sky Sports. Sky Sports Active was launched on 22 August 1999 with the world's first live interactive football match, Arsenal vs Manchester United. Since then, Sky Sports has enhanced 11 different sports giving alternative camera views, a choice of audio options and wealth of statistics during live Barclays Premiership matches and a choice of live matches during events such as the UEFA Champions League and US Open Tennis.
