After battling for the English Premier League, Sky and Setanta could get locked into a bidding war for the Football League, the second tier.
Six rights packages – including three live packages – are up for bid. The term is three seasons starting with the 2009-2010 season.
The league said it expected more than the GBP 37.5 it currently receives in a pact with Sky. The network stepped in and grabbed the rights in 2002 after ITV Digital collapsed.
Sky long had a hold on Premier League rights. But open competition this season allowed Setanta to gain a foothold with the rights to 46 live Premier League matches each season.
