FA opens international broadcasts tender

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The FA will seek out international broadcast bidders for FA Cup and England home matches between 2008 and 2012.

Bids must be submitted by 28 September. Setanta and ITV claimed the U.K. rights, scoring a GBP 425 million deal to oust Sky and BBC.

One package of live matches entails the FA Cup, while the other covers England internationals. Two delayed rights packages, which include highlights and various clip and edit rights, will be offered.

"We consistently see significant viewing figures for England and FA Cup matches which underline the immense popularity of our broadcast properties, both in England and abroad," said Jonathan Hill, group commercial director at the FA. "The new packages are tailored to the modern market and provide broadcasters with flexibility and a wide range of options, and we are confident that interest in our rights internationally is high and competition for the rights will be intense."
