France Télévisions, the French public-service broadcaster, is interested in obtaining rights to football's top-tier club competition, UEFA Champions League.
The sports-head of France Télévisions, Daniel Bilalian, anxious to have France 2, France Télévisions' main channel, to provide coverage of the competition.
TF1 will hold these rights until the end of the 08/09 season, along with French pay-television operator Canal Plus.
Financial concerns have prevented France Télévisions from broadcasting the tournament before. Current broadcasters TF1 and Canal Plus are paying EUR 40 million to EUR 45 million per season.
