While ABC and Univision won the rights English and Spanish TV rights to the World Cup in the U.S., Setanta Sports has secured the remaining foreign language rights to the tournament. In a deal signed with FIFA agents Infront Sports & Media, Setanta will broadcast games in languages such as German, Italian, Polish and French, along with languages from the Middle and Far East.
“We are extremely excited to be able to bring these games live to the millions of fans of European extraction living in the US,” says Simon Green, chief executive, Setanta Sports North America.
Setanta, an Irish-based broadcaster specializing in football and rugby, will air all 64 matches, including the tournament-opening game between Germany and Costa Rica on June 9.
