LFP and Antena 3 reach a settlement
|
A 17-year-old court decision is nearing resolution between the Spanish Football League (LFP) and private TV channel Antena 3. In 1989, a Spanish court ordered the LFP to pay Antena 3 EUR 25.5 million after LFP did not allow the channel to participate in bidding for Spanish league TV rights. An LFP assembly agreed to an alternative form of payment that involves the organization paying EUR 3 million upon signing of the new payment agreement, and paying EUR 3 million annually thereafter. If a deal would not have been agreed upon, the LFP would have had to present a request for voluntary contributions from creditors in order to maintain its financial stability. Another private channel, Tele 5, has also presented a compensation claim against the LFP and is waiting for it to be resolved. |
