Octagon CSI – a rights, broadcast and production company – has been awarded a three-year extension to the overseas TV rights for the Football League until 2009. The deal covers all three divisions of the Football League, the divisions directly below the top-level premiere League, including the Carling Cup.

Football League matches currently reach an audience of 165 million, with broadcasts in more than 90 countries. Chris Guinness, president of Octagon CSI, said: “We know that the competition for this contract was intense, with three other companies bidding against us, so it is a tremendous achievement to all involved.” Lord Mawhinney, chairman of The Football League, returned the compliment. He said: “I am very pleased that The League is continuing its successful, long standing partnership with Octagon CSI. Interest in The Football League is growing internationally, as well as domestically, and our clubs will benefit through the substantially improved terms delivered by this agreement.”
