The mere formality is that the French Professional Football league (LFP) will get its coveted four-year broadcast deal approval from the French competition authority.
The LFP sought to have its contracts extended from three to four, with an upcoming rights offer on the way, with 12 packages this year instead of the seven that have been offered in the past.
The tender is expected by the first week of December. The results due by January or February.
The LFP believes an extension will bring in more bidders. Pay operator Canal Plus has said it won't match the EUR 600 million it currently pays for rights.
The competition authority made its decision 9 Nov., and had forwarded the plan to a second competition regulator. The next step is for the plan to be passed to the sports ministry.
