A new sports channel dedicated to European football will start broadcasting in the US. Setanta Sports will commence its output via DirecTV, the largest digital television service in the country, reaching nearly fourteen million homes. The service will be subscription based, and will begin by broadcasting eighteen hours each day, seven days per week. The agreement with DirecTV is part of a long-term strategy shared by both parties to increase demand for the broadcasting of international football. Setanta Sports has worked with DirecTV previously, delivering pay-per-view sports events from Europe. The channel will broadcast over one thousand events this year including European club football and World Cup Qualifiers, either live or short-delayed and is already working on other distribution deals with satellite, broadband and wireless providers. Ethnic communities are expected to be! most supportive of the channel, especially males between the ages of 25 and 54. Although the service is subscription based, there will be opportunities for sponsorship and advertising
