Two major Greek broadcasters sealed a lucrative deal with UEFA to show Champions League matches from 2006-2009. Public broadcaster ERT was awarded the rights to show Wednesday first choice live matches while subscription based pay TV SuperSport will show Tuesday first choice matches and all others moving from ERT. Both channels will show Tuesday/Wednesday highlights and delayed matches. UEFA received some competitive offers in the Greek region, but decided to embark on a relationship with the two mentioned above who have a proven track record of delivery, service and quality within the industry. Commenting on the awards rights in Greece, UEFA CEO, Lars-Christer Olsson said: “We are pleased with the outcome of the broadcast rights sales process in Greece, the country of the reigning European Champions. The strong demand also demonstrates the value of the UEFA Champions League as a premium television property. We are convinced that the numerous passionate football fans in Greece will be well served by ERT and SuperSport.”
