'Canal Plus' efforts to get the professional football league to revert to its old tender format will be ruled upon Jan. 11.
The French state council will make the ruling. The league has offered four-season deals, while Canal Plus, which has insisted it will not match the current EUR 600 million amount it pays for rights, has tried to sway the deals back to three years. The current format holds the rights will be offered for 2008 through 2012.
Part of the feud also stems from the league wanting rights to the TV images, something that Canal Plus claims is wrong because, while the league can sell the rights, it shouldn't be allowed to maintain images broadcast by others.
Canal Plus has also filed an appeal with a French civil court to halt the tender.
