Sogecable has dug in its heels and will not even accept an invitation from the Spanish Football Association to facilitate discussions with broadcasting rival Mediapro.
The two broadcasters are in a fierce fight regarding football rights. The two spun off AudioVisual Sport as a company to air matches from the top clubs. But, as soon as Mediapro began buying future rights on a club-by-club basis, Sogecable claimed breach of contract and sued for money owed.
Mediapro counter-claimed it was owed money, and said there was not a no-compete provision in the contract.
The football association called for the meeting, believing the dispute could escalate and have a wider impact on Spanish football. Sources indicated Sogecable will keep its appointment but refuse to attend at the same time as Mediapro.
