UEFA has awarded ProSiebenSat.1 the free-to-air broadcast rights to show German teams in UEFA Cup action from the quarterfinals onwards for 2006-09.
The three-year contract includes the free-to-air rights for the UEFA Cup final and UEFA Super Cup. Similar rights were granted to Premiere last month, on a non-exclusive basis, for simultaneous broadcast on pay television. Premiere also holds the exclusive rights to all other UEFA Cup quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
The two deals offer comprehensive coverage of the competition to German viewers.
"We have worked with ProSiebenSat.1 in the past and we are very pleased to be able to continue our association in the future," said UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson. "One of the strongest commercial broadcast groups in Germany, they will ensure the competition is well promoted and together with Premiere will offer the German TV viewer high-quality coverage and excellent opportunities to watch top European football."
