SPORTFIVE's Sportdigital.tv looks to Premiere for platform
Germany - 05 October, 2007
SPORTFIVE's new Sportdigital.tv, launched in January, has been making a splash in holding talks with German pay broadcaster Premiere about use of its platform.
Sportdigital.tv managing director Gisbert Wundram has been holding talks with Premiere on appearing on its satellite platform. Premiere recently asked to extend the talks into 2008. Wundram also said talks were being held with Deutsche Telekom, Hansenet and Arcor, the German telecommunications groups, about broadcasting via IPTV.
Sportdigital.tv was originally only available via Internet. Subscribers can watch live action from the top leagues of German basketball, handball and volleyball, though Wundram said, if need be, that the broadcaster could draw from SPORTFIVE's wealth of rights owned, though he said he wasn't ready to commit that the Bundesliga would be aired on his network starting in 2009.
The broadcaster is targeting a five-figure subscription base in the meantime. To generate further income, the channel is also seeking to sub-license rights either nationally or internationally.
