Ligue 1 has officially published on Friday its tender for broadcast rights from 2008 through 2012.
Bids are expected through mid-January. The French league is hoping it will be able to bring in a bigger amount than the EUR 660 million a season deal that went with the last tender. The league was given special permission to extend terms of the deal by one more season to four years.
The international rights do not come with this deal.
Many of the Ligue 1 leaders believe they can get bidding close to EUR 900 million a year, despite Canal Plus, the current rights holder, saying it will not match its EUR 660 million deal.
Telecommunications company Orange, which could distribute live matches via ADSL, said it will not pursue rights.
