French broadcaster TF1 reached record audiences, with a big assist from its World Cup coverage.
A total of 98 of the top 100 programmes in the country were broadcast by TF1, extending by one the all-time high .
The top audience this past year was for the World Cup semifinal between France and Portugal on July 5, which brought in 22.2 million viewers and a 76.7 percent audience share, beating the 21.4 million TF1 held for the final of EURO 2000, between France and Italy.
At its peak, the France-Portugal match registered at 25.1 million viewers, an 88.5 percent share.
