Overseas rights fees strengthen FA coffers

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The rights to the English FA cup and England national home matches have fetched a GBP 145 million total in overseas fees over the next four years.

That is an increase of GBP 106 million over the previous four-year rights sell off.

The FA already is benefiting from domestic agreements, striking deals with ITV and Setanta worth GBP 425 million over the same four years.

"It means that the FA will be in its strongest-ever financial position, allowing us to substantially increase our investment back into all levels of the game," FA chief executive Brian Barwick said. "The new deal also underlines the enormous popularity of the England team and the FA Cup around the world, at a time when FIFA has opened the way for a possible English bid for the 2018 World Cup."
