UEFA has informed that restaurants, hotels and bars will not be required to pay a licence fee to screen UEFA EURO 2008 matches to customers on television sets.
Commercial public viewing involving large screens will, probably, be subject to a licence fee, and details will be released by UEFA as soon as the relevant contracts with broadcasters in Austria and Switzerland are signed.
"The clear intention of UEFA and its subsidiary company Euro 2008 SA is that the viewing of matches should be accessible to the largest audience possible. We would like to make it clear that restaurant, hotels and bars will not be required to pay any licence fee for public viewings of UEFA EURO 2008 matches on TV," a statement issued by UEFA said.
