Andy Cole top Megasoccer’s chart

Manchester City's striker Andy Cole has knocked national manager Sven Goran Eriksson off the top spot in Megasoccer’s top ten searches for October. Cole has won praise from manager Stuart Pierce who recently described his partnership with Darius Vassell on the pitch as “laurel and hardy without the humor”. Cole was the most searched-for football player on search engine Megasoccer.com last month.

The ex-England forwards have managed to amass 9 goals between them so far this season. Manager Stuart Pearce described Cole in relation to the duo’s partnership as “…. the brains behind the organization who plays the one and two touch stuff”. While Cole’s performance on the pitch has won him plaudits from fans across the Premiership its his link with a coaching job that has had fans searching online for more information about the rumor. Reports that Cole was interested in a coaching role with Ghana at next year’s world cup filled the sport back pages and homepages of football sites, however the link has been hotly denied by football authorities in Ghana. It remains to be seen who will coach Ghana for the World Cup next year but with the form Cole has displayed of late an England call up might not be out of the question, bookies have given odds of 10/1.

Michael Flynn, C.E.O. of Fast Web Media - the company behind Megasoccer.com - said: “Fans are really using Megasoccer to find out all they can about which player/manager is making the headlines its also worth noting that George Best came a close second, testament to the fact that he is widely respected by fans across the globe, when news breaks fans ultimately go online for instant access to news and Megasoccer is fast becoming a must see site for all football fans.”

Top Ten Searches on Megasoccer.com in October 2005: Andy Cole, George Best, Rafael Benitez, Didier Drogba, Sven Goran Eriksson, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marco Reich, Wayne Rooney, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry.
