Michael Owen is under the spotlight as transfer speculation reaches fever pitch in the run up to the start of the season. Earlier this month the current Real Madrid striker was linked to Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson was given the green light to put in a bid for him. But doubts as to whether this would fit into Sir Alex’s master plan began to set in with four International strikers already at his disposal some felt Owen’s talent may be stuck on the sidelines. Meanwhile over at Newcastle United manager Graham Souness has confirmed he was interested in putting in a bid for Owen sending the transfer rumor mill into overdrive.

Owen was the most searched-for footballer on search engine Megasoccer.com last month, with the ever-popular Steven Gerrard also attracting huge interest from information-hungry supporters during the close season.

Michael Owen remains one of England’s finest players with just under a goal every two games in international football, Owen’s combination of skill, pace and ability to read the game makes him a desirable asset. His position as Real Madrid striker was thrown into doubt with the arrivals of Brazilian duo Julio Baptista and Robinho at the Bernabeu. Fresh reports out today suggest that the young star plans to stay where he is for now.

Michael Flynn, C.E.O. of Fast Web Media - the company behind Megasoccer.com - said: “Transfer speculation during the Summer months are now part and parcel of a season that seems to have no end – fans can’t get enough of the players that provide the thrills and spills on the pitch and in the off season they still can’t get enough information on their favorite stars and Michael Owen is no exception. We have improved the search facility at Megasoccer by introducing the increasingly popular advanced language filter allowing users to search for results in any one of the 77 languages from English, to Chinese, to Danish. Users are now finding accurate and relevant information every time they search with Megasoccer.”
