UEFA approved the use artificial turf
|
The European governing body has approved the use of artificial turf from the beginning of the next season (2005/06). The synthetic turf can be used subject to UEFA's quality criteria and the move follows comprehensive studies into the sporting and medical aspects. UEFA’s announcement could lead to the installation of a synthetic surface at Milan’s San Siro Stadium. Both Italian Serie A clubs, AC Milan and Internazionale, use synthetic pitches for traning, and officials of both clubs have been critical of the pitch at the San Siro which undergone two treatments since the start of the current season and underwent five last season at the cost of £100,000 per treatment. A one-off synthetic installation would cost around £0.5.
