French LFP president, Frédéric Thiriez, hopes to seize the opportunity that EURO 2016 will present for the 10 Ligue 1 clubs to renovate and build new stadia, according to Ligue 1 news.

According to the French Football Association, there are nine host cities that will support the EURO 2016 in France should they win the bid, and three cities will stand-by in case one of the nine main host cities is unable to accommodate. Of these cities, Nice, Bordeaux, Lyon, and Lille will be the sites for brand new stadia. The other cities, Marseille, Saint-Etienne, Lens, Strasbourg, Nancy, and Paris will have their stadia remodeled. The Stade de France in Saint-Denis does not need any construction.

The government in France plans to contribute GBP 150 million for the projects, which are expected to create 15,000 jobs.

The use of the new stadia will help keep clubs from being dependent on revenue from television rights.

UEFA will decide on the winning country in May next year.
