English Chelsea Football Club is considering the sale of the naming rights for its stadium Stamford Bridge.

The club is seeking new sponsorship opportunities, according to Ron Gourlay, recently appointed chief executive of the club. Gourlay does admit, however, that renaming the stadium could upset fans. At the same time, he believes that fans would accept the change considering the ultimate goal.

Despite the possibly unpopular decision of changing the stadium’s name, Chelsea may make the move in order to maintain a financially competitive edge against other clubs.

Gourlay is confident with the club’s relationship to the fans, considering recent initiatives including a flexible ticketing policy for cup matches.
