Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Four football stadiums either specifically built or redeveloped for the Olympic soccer tournament, will remain largely empty for the foreseeable future as the Greek league sides who will inherit the new arena’s struggle to attract supporters. The 28,000 seats Take stadium built for the Olympic Games at a cost of €63m will house the Alpha Ethniki club OFI, which has in the past struggled to attract an average 5,000 spectators to its games. The 21,000 seats Pampeloponnisiako stadium is to be used by Alpha Ethniki club Panachaiki which was dropped out of the country’s top-tier following financial problems and face uncertain future. Each of the four locations, Heraklion, Patras, Thessaloniki and Volos, has strong ties with Greek Socialist Party officials who approved the construction and redevelopment schedule.
