The former German international midfielder plans to launch south-east Asia's first football academy are progressing after a deal was agreed to buy the land on which the facility will be built. Construction on the academy in Thailand had been delayed this year due to a dispute over land in the northern Chiang Rai province, but Effenberg's partners confirmed they have now secured a new site. Effenberg and private investors have pledged about US$ 3m for the facility, which is expected to be operational next year.
