A new 10,000-seater community stadium built by the local council will be used by the League One club. Due to the club’s recent success, which has seen it win two consecutive promotions in as many seasons, the council plan to expand the capacity of the stadium by an additional 5,000 seats, an extra £ 12 m cost on top of earlier estimations. The stadium is a part of a £ 20m lakeside sports complex which will include the stadium, athletics track, eight 5-a-side pitches, restaurants, and a 500-capacity sports bar. The expansion plan will now mean that the project is likely to cost in the region of £32m, with the extra finance likely to be raised from the sale of some of the council £ 500m stocks of land assets. Work is scheduled to begin in December, with the stadium completed in time for the start of the 2006/07 season.
