D.C. United could get city subsidy for stadium

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The Washington, D.C. council is considering a USD 150 million subsidy for a D.C. United football stadium at Poplar Point.

Three council members could introduce legislation authorizing Mayor Adrian Fenty to spend USD 150 million in public money for construction of the stadium. Negotiations had been stalled over whether the club should have exclusive rights to develop the entire site.

City leaders have been concerned about losing D.C. United to the suburbs. Owner Victor McFarlane has been in negotiations with Prince George's County leaders about a possible stadium.
