Council wants Liverpool to share grounds with Everton

American billionaires George Gillett, Jr. and Tom Hicks, the new owners of English Liverpool who want to expand the GBP 215 million ground at Stanley Park beyond the planned 60,000 seat capacity, have been urged by the city's council to re-evaluate its decision not to share the new stadium with English Everton.

"If they can consider an increase in size, why can't they consider a shared stadium?" asked Warren Bradley, Liverpool city council leader.

The club hasn't said whether work on the stadium will be suspended, but it plans on carrying out a review.

Bradley thinks Hicks and Gillett could be persuaded to consider a ground-share.

"They have got their guys looking at designs, infrastructure and everything," he said. "A commercial business in America sweat their asset until they can't get any more out of it."

Everton is considering moving to a new site in Kirkby, just outside Liverpool.

"I think in a few years' time they [Everton] will be playing in a new stadium and I think it will be in Liverpool," Bradley said.
