French Le Mans made a little history, signing away the naming rights of its stadium for EUR 10 million to insurance company MMA.
The pact is for 10 years, beginning in 2009. That deal made Le Mans the first French club to sell stadium naming rights. The stadium was named after a company — Leon-Bollée — that allowed the club to develop the land for the stadium in 1906.
MMA president Thierry Derez said there were a few reasons for the deal. The company said it made good business sense, and the fact the company has local ties.
