Portuguese Sporting Braga made some national history when the club became the first in Portugal to sell naming rights to their stadium to French insurer AXA.
The former Estádio Municipal de Braga still is owned by the municipality of Braga, but will now be called Estádio AXA whenever Sporting Braga plays there. The club pays a nominal monthly rent of EUR 500 for the use of the stadium.
AXA will be on the players' shirts as well, with a EUR 4.5 million deal for the three-year package.
The 30,154-seat stadium was opened in December 2003 as the new home of Sporting Braga and as a EURO 2004 venue.
