Spanish Seville, winner of the UEFA Cup, are preparing to add a third tier to the club's stadium with a EUR 100 million investment.
Club president Jose Maria Del Nido said the tier would add 20,000 seats and the cost offset by renting commercial and office space next to the 49-year-old ground. That would allow expansion close to 65,000. Del Nido said, with 92 percent of the 45,000-capacity stadium taken up by season-ticket holders, this will add room for other fans.
That could help revenue for the club. Del Nido said Seville takes in approximately EUR 65 million, which is far less than rival Real Madrid. Del Nido said his club needs to increase match-day sales to challenge the biggest teams in the Primera Division.
Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Valencia also plan to expand or build new stadiums.
