Welsh Rugby team Cardiff Blues is expected to yield its Arms Park to Cardiff City football club.
The Blues, who called Arms Park home for 130 years, are expected to go to the football club's new 25,000-seat stadium, which is about to begin construction.
The Cardiff Athletic Club currently leases Arms Park to the Blues. The rugby team likely will play at Sophia Gardens in the meantime.
Work will begin on Cardiff City's new stadium as soon as an athletics track has been laid nearby in the development at Leckwith. The projections have the stadium finished by December 2008 with a cost of GBP 42 million.
The project also will have 400,000 square feet of retail development, including Marks & Spencer, JJB Sports and Asda.
"The council have gifted Cardiff City land for the stadium and we will own that stadium," said football club chairman Peter Ridsdale. "We were asked to talk to the Blues. Do I think it will happen? Yes. Is it right? I can't see an alternative and it will help our income from the stadium.
"That will help Cardiff manager Dave Jones with the team. My answer would be yes."
