Welsh Cardiff City is looking into the possibility of building their own training complex after it became apparent that the centre at the Vale of Glamorgan would not be ready by the start of next season.
With the new stadium ready to get the go-ahead, Cardiff City could spend up to GBP 4 million on the complex.
That is a change as the club wanted to begin training alongside the rugby outfit Cardiff Blues. But chairman Peter Risdale said the plans might have to be switched after finding that the Vale of Glamorgan has not even gained planning permission.
"We would have all facilities required and two dedicated pitches (at the Vale of Glamorgan)," Risdale said. "The choice was rent or buy, and we chose to rent.
"Has work started? No, because it appears there is no planning consent."
"Should we spend between £3m and £4m on our own training facility? Today, we have not signed an agreement, although I would accept we are mentally committed to going to the Vale of Glamorgan."
That has left manger David Jones frustrated.
"A training ground is a massive part of a club," Jones said. "It's where we should spend the majority of our time together."
